Mental Health Treatment for Older Adults

We recommend an appropriate level of care for you and help you transition to less intensive levels of therapy when you are ready. Mental health for seniors at Heritage Oaks includes:

Inpatient mental health services

Individuals stay in a dedicated unit, receiving attentive care from providers specializing in the needs of older adults. Services focus on improving symptoms with additional assistance as necessary for mobility issues and self-care. We also provide medication management and around-the-clock monitoring. Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs

Our outpatient mental health services are for older adults who don’t need 24/7 inpatient care but require more intensive therapy than weekly sessions can offer. We provide structured group treatment while enabling older adults to live at home. Options include:

Specialized Mental Health for Seniors

At Heritage Oaks, older adults can access additional outpatient mental health services, some of which are not widely available in the Sacramento area, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

Options include:

Telehealth

Eligible individuals participate in our IOP from start to finish from the comfort of home. All aspects of the program, including assessments, group therapy and one-on-one check-ins, take place virtually. To participate in this program, you must have internet access with a video camera and microphone. Get more information about telehealth.

Dual diagnosis services

Older adults with a mental health diagnosis and substance use disorder have access to coordinated care for both concerns. Our dual diagnosis services reduce reliance on substances and help you find other ways of coping with stress and trauma.

Offerings do not include detox. However, individuals who are in a mental health crisis while detoxing may be eligible for inpatient services.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)

ECT is a series of procedures under anesthesia where we deliver gentle electrical pulses to specific areas of the brain. It may be an option if you’re not finding sufficient relief from standard mental health therapies. This treatment is also for people who experience uncomfortable side effects from mental health medication. Find out more about electroconvulsive therapy or call 916-480-5115 for more information.

Individual results may vary. There are risks associated with any medical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is right for you.

Services for veterans

Some older adults face mental health issues from trauma related to military service. Veterans and active-duty military can find comprehensive, compassionate care at Heritage Oaks. We offer focused PHP and IOP programming dedicated to your needs. We are a TRICARE®-authorized provider and help you access your benefits.

If you are active-duty military or a veteran and having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, you are entitled to receive immediate, no-cost mental health intervention through the COMPACT Act.
